Open Your Mouth!
Quote:“Boldness be my friend.” [William Shakespeare]
- When was the last time you spoke to your immediate neighbours - the very people who live next door to you? A very interesting encounter took place a while back, as I was in my garden, half way up a ladder.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
- I heard this screech of car tyres, and the crunching of metal coming from the street outside my house. I rushed through the front door to see what can only be described as carnage. This random old guy had accidentally mounted the pavement whilst trying to reverse into a car space outside my neighbour’s house. His left foot had slipped off the clutch and his right leg had slammed down on what he thought was the brake, yet was, sadly, the accelerator. The car shot up the pavement, through the fence and, at full speed, mounted my neighbour’s flowerbeds, engine running, petrol pouring out, missing my neighbour’s lounge wall by millimetres!
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
- I turned off the engine and called the cops! As we waited for the police and ambulance to arrive most of my street stood outside drinking tea - the English way - and got chatting. We’d lived there four years and barely ever said a word to our, shall we say, shocked neighbours. But, now, ever since the “car-nage”, we’ve been round for coffee, talked more in the street and even exchanged Christmas presents.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
- Talk to your neighbours! Don’t wait for a car to come crashing through your their fence before you eventually grasp the opportunity to strike up a conversation. Life’s too short. Don’t be British! Simply begin - slowly, but surely - to start a friendship and build trust.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
- When trust is built it opens the door to God’s Hope being demonstrated in both word and deed - the Godly way we speak and the Christ-like things we do to demonstrate Jesus’ love.
