old friends

“A friend is a gift you give yourself.”
[Robert Louis Stevenson]

  • Sit down for a second. Think of your three closest friends. Now, think about five other friends that you regularly hang out with. Next, think of another five who you enjoy seeing every now and then.

  • Good. You’ve listed some key people in your life. Take a moment now to call to mind one person who you’ve definitely not seen or heard from, texted or emailed, in over a year.

  • Friends are so important to our lives. They form part of a collage in our history, and they help us through the ups and downs of life. In fact, one of the greatest things we do for ourselves is - as Robert Louis Stevenson said - to surround our lives with good people. Friends are gifts!

  • Often though, for whatever reason, we just lose touch with friends. It’s not that we fall out as such, but rather that we just drift apart or one of us moves away.

  • So, today, try and get in touch with this one person. They may need to hear what’s going on in your life now, in this year of Hope. If they don’t know about Jesus, what a great opportunity to tell them about the message of Hope. If they are a Christian, they might need to be encouraged by what God is doing in your life today. Who knows, you may be able to speak some truth or wisdom back into their journey of faith. The possibilities are endless, you just have to make the choice to reconnect with an old friend.
