GET INVOLVED IN GOD'S MISSION!

‘It is not the Church of God that has a mission in the world, but the God of mission who has a Church in the world.’
[Mission-shaped Church, Chapter 5, p85]

  • It’s great to be creative about mission. The smallest thing can inspire us on to do (and create) great things for God’s kingdom. However, does mission start with us? No!

  • Look at today’s quote. This quote is taken from a report called Mission-shaped Church, all about the Church of England’s involvement in local mission. It’s a challenging quote because it’s basically saying Mission is God’s business. Mission starts with God, not the Church. God is always involved in mission. It also implies that God will use His Church to do mission...if it is willing to join Him,

  • This week, what’s the challenge? Well, the challenge involves two parts. Firstly, our job is not to feel under pressure to create a mission of our own. We don’t have to come up with amazing, creative, earth-shattering ideas to do mission. If we do, brilliant, yet they’re only ideas. It’s God who makes them work! Even though we’re involved in a year-long mission to our friends, communities and world, it is God who owns the mission and chooses to invite us to take part.

  • Secondly, it’s our job to look and see where God is at work. Be prayerful and wise in where you invest your energy over the rest of this year into 2009 and beyond. You see, there’s no point putting yourself under pressure to create an amazing mission idea that saps all your energy, when God is actually at work down the road, doing something relativelysimple but with powerful, life-changing results. Look to see where God is at work and then go and join Him!

  • So, keep going, keep dreaming big dreams for God and keep working hard for Him. However, there’s no pressure to be clever, overly creative or to become the next Billy Graham. Just present yourself to God each day and ask “Father, where are you at work in my community today, and how can I join in with you?”
