Stay fresh!

“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I put my hope.”
[Psalm 130 v 5]

  • We are now exactly half way through Hope08 and I bet you’ve been involved in some pretty amazing projects so far? However, with half a year to go - and of course the rest of our lives as Revolutionaries living out Jesus’ commandments - how are we going to make sure that what we give out to others is not a stale, tired, unenthusiastic hope?

  • As Revolutionaries of Hope our greatest source of spiritual strength comes from the relationship we have with God through the Bible and our daily prayer life.

  • You see, to be messengers of Hope, people with powerful words as well as powerful actions, we need to stay fresh. And this is where the psalmist had it sussed.

  • In today’s quote from Psalm 130, we see that the Psalmist had a two-way method of keeping fresh for God. Firstly, he understood that if he just presented himself regularly to God, allowing His Spirit to constantly refresh him, then he would be ready and prepared for all the challenges that lay ahead. Secondly, he chose not to rely on the many confusing messages the world threw at him. Instead, he chose to trust in eternal promises; to put his hope in God’s word.

  • So this week, your challenge is to create space to simply be with God and then to take on board the promises in the Bible. Maybe there are particular passages in the Bible that have meant something special to you in the past, or were particularly speaking to you at the start of Hope08. This week, read those passages again! Keep fresh by staying close to God and always putting your hope in Him.
