Placing your trust...
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, ? but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. [Psalm 20 v 7]
• Supposedly, last Wednesday, there was a high chance that the world was going to implode. Yep, that’s right, the newly unveiled particle accelerator on the Swiss/French border was officially switched on, as scientists begin their quest to find the elusive ‘God particle’. This is a piece of matter so minute, it’s smaller than an atom and could hold the key to what triggered the ‘Big Bang’.
• It’s funny isn’t it, when you switch on the radio or open a newspaper and you have the media telling you that the world could end? Scientists stand there huddled around computers, patting themselves on the back for being so clever. Granted, science is amazing, but it’s God who inspires humankind to greater discoveries, and also God who holds the keys to the universe. Let’s face it, it’s God who decides when the world will end, not some hunk of metal buried underground.
• So what’s all this to do with being a Revolutionary? Well, today’s quote from Psalm 20 puts it all into perspective. Many of us today are pressurized by the media into placing our trust in material things, relationships, new age philosophies, and science. God has been sidelined by our Western culture as ‘outdated’ or ‘irrelevant’, so for you to believe in the promises of His word makes you a Revolutionary straight away, because you’re failing to believe the hype about science or all the other ‘stuff’ of our western world. You're instantly in the minority in the eyes of the world because of your faith in a person you can't see. yet, what opportunities this gives us for being radical!
• Take a look at your life today? What is it full of? Chances are that it’s full of great things, great people and great opportunities. Yet nothing we have or own, and nobody we know can match up to the greatness, faithfulness and love of God. The psalmist knew this, deep in his heart.
• So, this week and in this year, are you torn between believing in the ‘hope’ that science will sort everything out or believing in the promises and hope of God? If so, chose God! Believe in the power of the One who sustains everything in existence...from the hugest galaxy to the smallest ‘God particle’. He’ll never fail you!
