Psalm 116
12 What can I offer the Lord? for all he has done for me? 13 I will lift up the cup of salvation? and praise the Lord’s name for saving me? 14 I will keep my promises to the Lord? in the presence of all his people. [Psalm 116]
• You can just picture the Psalmist sitting there [maybe by a riverside or a place where he’s got space to think] and looking back on his life, remembering how utterly faithful and good God has been to him.
• This is a truly wonderful Psalm and one that we as Revolutionaries can use to reflect back - not only over the past year of exciting, practical mission - but over our WHOLE lives.
• In good times, God has been there, celebrating with us. In the boring, mundane, everyday hassles of life on earth, God has also been there. And, in the bad times, God has always been present; walking through our suffering with us.
• So what is our response to how much God loves us: to his faithfulness, kindness, mercy and goodness? Well, why not make the same promises here that the Psalmist makes, as we look back on our lives, on Hope08 and prepare for whatever 2009 and the future holds?
• Today, what can you offer Jesus for all he has done for you? Will you celebrate being saved and walk the life of Jesus: serving God and others and loving your neighbour as yourself? Will you strive to bring about justice for those who are oppressed? Will you live to make Jesus known to as many people as possible for however long you live for? And finally, will you keep those promises you’ve made to God - the ones only you and he know about?
