Jesus - who is he and what is he to me?
Let’s face it, if you want to communicate the message of Hope to your friends, the awesome reality of the Christmas and Easter stories, you are going to need to know what you think about God and why you think it. You need to be able to answer this questions for yourself:
‘Who is he and what is he to me?’
CS Lewis & Christianity CS Lewis (a famous author who amongst other things wrote ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’) sums it up like this:
"We have three options on who we think Jesus is; one – was and is who he said he was, two – a complete lunatic, three – something much much worse."
CS Lewis then goes on to conclude that his understanding and experience of Jesus leads him to only one conclusion – that Jesus was and is God.
Think: Jesus is asking you, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Have you responded? What is your story? What is your response to his question?
Read: John 1: 10-12 [NLT Bible] ‘He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.’
You have ‘believed him and accepted him’, and because of that you have become a child of God. Do you really understand what that means? Stop and think about why you became a Christian, take time to consider what questions you have and then note them down. Remember you are not alone – find a Christian leader or a friend to talk to about your own journey so far. This could really help you with your thought process and help you to start framing your own story that you can then communicate to your mates.
So let's take a look at how we share the message of Christmas, by looking at: understanding yourself and your friends
