School Bus - Cartoon 7

what to do in your school

Survey Time
Do a survey of what people in your school like best about Christmas, and then publish it on a website (your church / youth group / your own) and send them an email when it's uploaded. You might even be able to get it on your school's website.  Also, if it's your own sight, why not upload information about your church's Christmas services and interview a Christian friend or Church leader about how they celebrate Christmas and what it means to them.

Help Your Head Teacher!
With a group of mates, offer to stay late or come in a day early to take down Christmas decorations and get the school ready for the Spring term.

New Year Booklet
Design a New Year 2009 booklet for year 7’s, with articles on coping in their second term, ideas for New Year resolutions, memories from your own year 7 experience, some extracts from your own teachers on their memories of school (yes - they did all go to school once !). Include fun stories and cartoons. Ask some teachers what exciting things the term holds for year 7 group and add some useful information to help them lock into school life [clubs, sports, music etc].  Try to get the school to print the booklets for you and hand them out in the first week back.

Swap Shop
Arrange a 'Swap Shop' for exchanging unwanted Christmas presents.  Make sure you get approval from teachers and set some ground rules about the top limit of present value (as some parents may not be pleased about some of the swaps). Make it a real fun, multi-media event. Why not try and get the school sports hall for the early morning / after school and host a 'breakfast show', with radio DJ-type content and include some interviews with teachers and, of course, the 'Swap Shop'.

What Does Your School Want For Christmas?
Simply ask your Head Teacher that if you and your mates were to club together and give the school a Christmas present, what would they suggest?  Be prepared to define whether it is money, time or anything like that.  Alternatively you could offer that you and your mates would be happy to do pretty much anything to serve the school. Remember though, you have to be willing to take anything on and not grumble, choosing to smile as you serve your school!
