Love Your Neighbour

what you can do

Community Clean-Up
Organise a 'Community Clean-Up' on one of the days between Christmas and New Year.  Choose an area, check what needs doing, get the right people/expertise to help and, importantly, get the right tools to actually do the job.  It may not be the best time of year and you may need more time to organise it, but make your mind up to do it and at least start talking to others; Town Officials, local Police, Shop Keepers, in order to make it happen. Use your imagination!

[NB – You may even get help with rubbish sacks, gloves, litter pickers and final collection of the rubbish].

Sing-along
Organise a traditional Christmas 'sing song' around the  town Christmas tree. Do this two or three times in one day or over a few days.  You can arrange this around your final Christmas shopping or  coffee with your friends. Suggested Plan: Meet at 11am at the Christmas tree, sing five Christmas Carols and head for a coffee together. Warm up, come back, and  sing another five, then head home. Make sure you print out or get hold of the words (your church will probably have some carol sheets around somewhere. Just ask). The more the merrier, so why not announce at church what you are doing and ask others to join you.

Christmas Lunch
Volunteer to serve Christmas lunch to people. Again, ask around at your church, as quite a lot of towns now do this as a joint church activity, serving those who may be otherwise alone.  Make sure you talk it over with your family before you volunteer as they may have plans already made about Christmas Day.

Help A Charity
Approach a local charity and offer to help them over this Christmas period.  Think about what you can actually offer, how much time you have, what your skills are, then once you have agreed, try not to let them down - it is better to offer little and do lots than offer lots and do little or nothing!

Gift Give-Away
Gather any of your unwanted gifts and give them away to a local charity shop or to someone or a group of people you know who will appreciate and benefit from them. Try to save the original boxes so that the item can be well presented again.
