We Must Go!
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
James 2 v 14-18
What are your plans for this summer?
Are you going to a holiday camp, a big festival or just chilling with friends?
My challenge for you this week is a simple one. What are you going to do to serve God in a practical way this summer?
It’s all good and well going to a camp or festival and getting filled with the Holy Spirit, but if you just let that passion disappear as soon as you get back to the mundane reality of your normal life I think you may have missed the point.
Many of us will at some point over the summer sing these words:
We must go!
Live to feed the hungry Stand beside the broken We must go! Stepping forward keep us from just singing Move us into action We must go!
Is this just a catchy song but a hollow sentiment?
This summer you can make a difference to your community by serving them in so many ways. So before you go to get filled with the Spirit, plan for what you are going to do when you return.
God may well tell you something that He wants you to do while you are away. If He does:
- Write it down
- Discuss it with others
- Pray about it
- Follow through on what He has requested of you!
