Hope for the future

No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.

Philippians 3:13-14

We are not only at the start of a new year but also a new decade. And what is the state of the world at this key moment? Many counties in economic meltdown, corruption destroying our faith in the people who govern us, the cost of living souring, tighter controls then ever before on where and how you can share your faith, cases of clinical depression at an all time high… I could go on.

When things seem to be going wrong many people spend too much time focusing on what has happened in the past rather than looking to the future.
How good are you at forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead?

If life is a race, are you trying as hard as you can?

Sometimes things go wrong and we are struck down by pain. At these times we can feel like we just can’t run the race anymore. But we have a Father in heaven who can help us to keep going.

A few days ago I was shown this video:

This is a man who was broken and in pain but wouldn’t give up on finishing the race, but his father came to his aid and carried him across the finish line.

As Christians we have a great opportunity to serve others who are currently going though tough time. Even in the worst of times Jesus gives us a bright hope for tomorrow, so the challenge is to be that bit of hope in your community.
